Herzogburg Fortress
The Herzogburg fortress in Burggasse was built between 1523 and 1529 to house the Dukes’ armoury. The five-storey tower in the northern corner of the city walls also dates back to this time. The three-storey wing building annexed to the tower in a south-easterly direction was the actual armoury; the wing connecting it to the opposite, short, two-storey living quarters was also only two storeys high and was mentioned in documents as the living quarters of the Carinthian Spanheim Dukes as early as in the 13th century.
The residential wing has an open flight of stairs and access galleries with pointed arches. All windows and gates have Late Gothic stone jambs, some of them with carved profiles.
